GSAI Employment Diversity Summary
GSAI maintains a policy of equal employment opportunity for all employees and applicants for employment. This means employees are hired, trained, promoted, and compensated on the basis of personal competence and potential for advancement without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, national origin, age, marital status, or disability.
Doing business in a region rich with diversity, we understand the importance of actively seeking to promote and encourage historically underrepresented persons.
Firm Efforts to Promote Equal Opportunity
GSAI has a strong record of assisting and promoting the success of other small businesses. As an 8(a) contractor for the U.S. Small Business Administration, GSAI provided technical assistance and mentoring for other small engineering and construction firms through the 7(j) program, serving as a mentor to approximately 70 small businesses in the mid-1990s. Involvement in this program led to Garry Struthers being awarded the SBA Hero Award for assisting and mentoring small businesses.
EEO Commitment and Small Business/DBE Participation
When teaming, GSAI has also sought to utilize small, disadvantaged businesses whenever possible. We estimate that this practice has been implemented on approximately 70 percent of our engineering efforts. GSAI promotes other small businesses to our clients, and we refer requests for services outside our areas of specialty to small, disadvantaged businesses whenever possible. Even when these efforts spawn competitors, GSAI benefits from the increasing success, celebrity, and strength of the growing community of local, regional, and national small, disadvantaged businesses.
Garry Struthers Associates, Inc. (GSAI) was established in 1988 to provide integrated engineering, environmental, facilities management and construction management services to public and private sector clients in the built environment. The founder of the company, Garry Struthers, drew upon his years of professional experience in the field as both a general contractor and as the branch manager of a major consulting engineering firm to create an organization that helps clients to understand and maximize each project and each facility’s functionality. Mr. Struthers’ commitment to quality and reputation for completing projects on schedule and within budget has earned the firm a long, successful record of clients. In addition, Mr. Struthers serves as a tireless advocate for minority businesses. A long-term officer with the National Minority Business Council, he regularly takes the role of speaker, advisor and business counselor.
GSAI views each project within its larger context to provide our customers the best methods for short- and long-term project delivery. Our trademarked Integrated Management System (IMS), coupled with the Total Project Management method, streamlines the delivery process for the owner, designer and construction professionals. By providing integrated services, environmental issues that could delay a project are identified early on, constructability is built into the design, and the individuals overseeing construction have a clear understanding of the project’s ultimate purpose.
Throughout the history of the firm, a strong emphasis has been placed on quality and control. Projects are executed with rigorous oversight that monitors and controls quality, budget, and schedule. Our strong emphasis on control - from initial planning through construction and as-built documentation - has earned GSAI valuable repeat business. Quality performance is an expectation for every client on every project. GSAI’s management style delegates clear responsibility to project staff, motivating them to perform at their best within the solid framework of the company’s report structures and client contractual obligations. GSAI has adopted the ISO 9000 and 14000 series of international standards as our quality management system.
Throughout our 20-year history, GSAI has achieved an impressive corporate resume of integrated project delivery at facilities around the world. Our clients appreciate our ability to act as an extension of staff and as owners’ advocates. Our record of success is demonstrated in the numerous recognitions that have been conferred upon GSAI.
